Frontdoor Technical Program Manager in Denver, Colorado

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) is responsible for defining project scope and schedule while focusing on regular and timely delivery of value; organizing and leading project teams; managing risk and issues; correcting deviations from plans; and performing delivery of product to the business. The TPM will be responsible for managing several concurrent high visibility projects using agile methods with proven program management skills in a fast-paced environment that may cross multiple business divisions and engineering teams. Successful candidates will have a strong technical background, possess a results-driven mindset, and have a keen eye for detail. Strong problem-solving abilities, sound business judgement, and effective leadership skills are critical to the position.

Job Responsibilities

As a technical program manager:

  • Own releases, de-risk them and take releases to completion

  • Demonstrated ability to define and manage scope, schedule and budget for multiple projects

  • Understand technical details of the development, break down complex project work and challenge all parties (engineers, development managers, product managers) to provide clarity

  • Identify need for resources from or trade-offs with other teams that will maximize the overall company's goals

  • Proficient in coordinating with other departments and teams to manage dependencies, risks, and schedules

  • Anticipate and understand ways of redefining scope and breaking up of implementation to bring project back into normal course

  • Understand the effective performance of individual team members and act as a sounding board for managers to make decisions on resource assignment for projects

  • Work with developers to tease out undercurrent concerns not clearly expressed and bring out clarity. Be a voice for the engineer

  • Excellent written skills is absolutely essential. The TPM will be expected to write trade-off documents that will be reviewed by stakeholders across the company

  • Communicate effectively to stakeholders and senior leadership about project status and resolutions

  • Coordinate work and manage dependencies across multiple teams

  • Provide metrics and reporting for project and delivery teams, as well as executive management

  • Create, document, and maintain comprehensive project plans and coordinate tasks required for timely completion of projects, as well as long-term deliverable sustainability

  • · Ability to do basic debugging and testing of product to have a personal sense and judgement of quality

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, other related fields, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience in managing technology projects in support of a highly technical environment

  • 2+ years of experience managing work in an agile environment

  • Experience in managing complex projects or programs at scale; Proven experience managing cross-organizational programs and ability to set and hold teams and individuals to timelines and deliverables without explicit authority

  • Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools:

  • Agile Project Management tools such as Jira/VSTS or equivalent

  • PM tools such as Project or Planview

  • Proven track record of analytical skills is critical

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and engineering individuals at all levels including the executive level

  • Strong experience leading daily standups, sprint planning, scrum-of-scrum, retrospective and other key Agile process functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years software engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading large-scale IT projects to successful delivery and completion

  • 2+ years experience in a technical leadership role

  • Strong experience in SQL.

  • Experience in JIRA reporting and create data analysis reports in PowerBI is a plus

  • Experience in parsing log files to narrow down issues for the engineers in case of escalations

  • Deep experience and understanding of consumer-facing applications

  • Experience managing projects that spanned many development teams

  • Experience managing development teams and cycles at a remote location

  • Experience testing web and mobile applications
